Bolton’s pubs have been commended in the latest edition of the CAMRA Good Beer Guide.

Pubs in Bolton, Westhoughton, and Farnworth were commended in the 2025 guide.

The 2025 edition guide can be purchased with a Coronation Street or Emmerdale cover for £16.99.

The guide surveys 4,500 of the best pubs in the UK – with 13 of Bolton’s featuring.

One of those featuring is Astley Bridge’s Bank Top Brewery Tap – which featured as one of The Bolton News’ pubs of the week last month.

John Mitchell, chair of CAMRA's Bolton Branch, said: “Bolton branch has an allocation of 13 pubs in the guide and these are chosen from scratch each year by local CAMRA members through a combination of beer scores given over the previous 12 months and members’ votes.

“The pubs in this year’s Guide range from traditional locals like the Crown in Horwich, voted into the guide for many years for the consistent quality and variety of its beers, to One for the Road, a micropub located on Bolton Market.

“Other entries come from across the borough from Farnworth to Horwich and Westhoughton. Bolton’s local brewers are also well represented with Bank Top, Blackedge and Northern Monkey’s brewery taps included.”

This year’s guide features covers with a choice of a Coronation Street or Emmerdale theme – with the Rovers Return Inn or the Woolpack.

CAMRA chairman Ash Corbett-Collins said: “The Rovers Return Inn and the Woolpack represent the UK’s love of their local, and to have them featured on the covers for this year’s Guide is very exciting.

“CAMRA’s mission is to ensure support from the government as well as tangible legislation to protect pubs across each nation of the UK.

"By next year’s edition of the Guide, we want to be talking about the beer and pub trade growing with the support of communities and parliament alike.”
