An investigation is underway after a car was stolen with the owner believing it has been scrapped in Bolton.

Mohammed Awais, 22, was shocked when he returned home last Friday night (September 20) to find his BMW 3 Series was no longer parked outside where he lives.

“I just came home and thought what the hell, who has stolen my car,” Mohammed said.

Mohammed, who lives in Bradford, then quickly rang the police to report that his car had been stolen.

He then checked nearby footage from a neighbour's camera to find a mystery truck had taken his BMW away while he was out.

Mohammed added: “It’s hard as I’ve been left without a car and I use a car to get to work.

“I’m only young so it’s hard and that car was my pride and joy.”

The Bradford resident estimated the three-litre, 18-year-old car was worth around £2,500.

He has been left having to claim the money back on his insurance.

He explained: “You can literally see the back tyres are locked up on the vehicle as it’s being dragged onto the truck.

“I could show you the tyre marks.

“I’m angry.”

A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Police received a report at 10.55pm on September 20 that the caller’s vehicle had been stolen from an address in Bradford, sometime after 5pm.

“Further information was provided by the victim that they had information that the vehicle had been taken to a scrapyard in Bolton.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”

The Scrap Metal Dealers Act of 2013 requires relevant documents to be produced when scrapping cars to prevent dishonest transactions and vehicle-related crimes.
