Investigations into the cause of a three-car crash which shut a main road are continuing today.

Beaumont Road was closed off yesterday following the smash just before 7.30pm on Sunday.

The road stayed closed until past 10pm as investigation and recovery work continued.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) were on the scene for around one hour and Northwest Ambulance (NWAS) were in attendance and took care of two people.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS), said: “At just after 7.20pm on Sunday (September 22) two fire engines from Bolton Community Fire Station attended a crash involving three vehicles on Beaumont Road, Bolton.

“Crews were in attendance for around one hour.”

It is unclear what caused the collision and whether anyone was taken to hospital as a result.

There have been a number of crashes on Beaumont Road.

Although the cause of this crash is not known, a local councillor has urged drivers to take extra care when on the road.

(Image: Phil Taylor) Cllr Andy Morgan said: “Speed limits are set for a reason by police and highways authorities.

“They are set to enhance road safety and reduce the risk of accidents, protecting drivers, passengers and pedestrians alike.

“They are a maximum speed, not a target, and I would respectfully request on behalf of us all that the speed limits are adhered to.”

An eyewitness said: "I had been behind a vehicle and one vehicle clipped the curb and crossed the carriageway and collided with another.

"Both vehicles ended up in the same carriageway."

They believed someone has been taken to hospital although this has not been confirmed.

Police say investigations are currently ongoing.
