Two young men have been arrested on suspicion of possessing drugs with intent to supply in Bolton town centre.

The arrests took place yesterday afternoon, Wednesday, after officers allegedly witnessed the pair, who are aged 18 and 20, "engaging in what appeared to be drug dealing".

Police said one attempted to flee but was detained by officers, who reportedly found "what is believed to be Class A drugs" and a knife on him.

Both remain in custody for questioning.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "On Wednesday, officers from the Bolton South Neighbourhood Team were proactively patrolling Bolton town centre when they have had reason to stop and search two males under section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act.

"PC Golding and PC Wilkinson had been observing them for some time engaging in what appeared to be drug dealing.

"One male has attempted to make off from officers but was too slow for PC Golding.

"After a brief foot pursuit he was detained and found in possession of a number of wraps of what is believed to be Class A drugs, along with a knife concealed in his trousers.

"His companion was searched and found to be in possession of a large quantity of money.

"Both males, aged 18 and 20, were arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance with intent to supply, with the 20-year-old further arrested on suspicion of possession of a bladed article.

"Both males remain in custody for questioning."
