Walks through Bolton's rich history are proving a huge draw.

Live from Worktown, an arts and heritage non-profit organisation, launched a series of Heritage Walks last month  - with one taking place today and another on Saturday.

The walks are in memory of Bolton’s well-known late historian and author, Dave Burnham.

The walk, which are free-of-charge, take place along four different routes of various lengths to suit all.

The longest walk, which is through Turton, is just under four miles.

Director of Live from Worktown, Julia Uttley said: “Of the four routes, three of these are based on Dave Burnham’s research, which explores the history of the people who’ve shaped Bolton.

“The other route uses research from our co-director, Peter Firth, who will be leading the tours.

“We received £5,000 from Bolton’s Fund last year to get people over the age of fifty out walking, which we used to make sure the tours were as informative and accessible as possible.

“After the success of last year’s walks, we’ve added more routes to accommodate for demand. We keep the pace slow so that people can learn about Bolton’s heritage without feeling rushed.

“The walks have had massive interest so far. Each walk has twenty places and the past two have had eighteen walkers – so we’re almost at full capacity.

“We used Dave’s research for a series of guided audio walks last year, which are still available to download. This year we combined the research from the audio walks with face-to-face guides – so people get the best of both worlds!”

She added: “We’re hoping to get guests involved on the walks and anyone with local knowledge is welcomed to share with the others on order to enhance the experience.”

Co-director of Live from Worktown Peter Firth said: "It is a real pleasure to see people enjoying the great places we have in Bolton and the beautiful countryside that surrounds us, whilst finding out about Bolton's rich heritage.”
