“On a personal note, Christine had a great sense of humour and a real passion for life, she'll be greatly missed."

A town clerk plays a hugely important role in the running of a town council, helping to advise the authority, manage staff and make sure business is conducted properly.

These were all roles that Christine was said to have performed with  'diligence and determination'.

She was first appointed as deputy town clerk in 1988 after having previously worked as borough council cashier at Westhoughton Town Hall.

On becoming town clerk soon after, she began her three decades of service that would make her a trusted figure around the town.

Throughout all her years as town clerk, Christine was renowned for her close work with community groups, schools, charities and businesses around Westhoughton.

All of this helped to strengthen connections across the town, where Christine’s approachable nature and dedication meant she was always willing to listen and offer support where needed.

Former town mayor and captain of the Westhoughton Bellringers Ryan Battersby was one of many high-profile figures to pay tribute after her death on Monday, September 9 this year.

He said: "Christine was a huge support during our mayoral year.

“With her immeasurable knowledge, she became a friend for life, whose wisdom and wit will be sorely missed."
