A Bolton policeman sent to prison on corruption charges was sacked by the Chief Constable.

Akeel Kadir was sent to prison for 15 months after a trial this year at Liverpool Crown Court.

According to GMP's Anti Corruption Unit, PC Kadir, previously of GMP Bolton, took advantage of his access to secure systems to access information on investigations for the claims management company Apex Claims (UK) Ltd in return for an array of benefits from its director Junaid Patel.

Patel, previously of Edstone Close, Bolton, was sentenced to a suspended sentence and 120 hours of unpaid work after the trial this year at Liverpool Crown Court while two others were cleared of all involvement in the scheme which went on for a number of years.

There was a tribunal in relation to PC Kadir over the summer and according to a ruling released on September 10 PC Kadir was sacked by the Chief Constable Stephen Watson. He was not in attendance to respond to the allegations during the tribunal at GMP HQ.

Chief Constable Watson said: "In short his professional and personal failings point to his being unsuited to the office of constable. The public are well served by his departure and he has come to deserve his disgrace and his period in prison.

"In conclusion I have no hesitation in dismissing him from the service with immediate effect. I order that Mr Kadir's name be added to the College of Policing's Barred List."

PC Kadir is on the College of Policing's Barred List for life unless he is successful in a review application. He cannot start a review application for a minimum of five years.
