The Octagon has put out a call for a new team to bring the love of theatre to as many people as possible in Bolton.

The theatre, often described as Bolton's 'jewel in the crown' has announced a new voluntary community programme called Community Connectors, in which people act as the theatre's representatives.

The Octagon is looking for local people to act as their representatives – with appointed Community Connectors working on how the theatre can improve their engagement and reach even more communities in Bolton.

Each year the Octagon reaches thousands of people through their artistic programming and extensive creative engagement work, and the aim of the Community Connectors programme is to ensure that their work fully embeds Bolton’s community voice into the organisation and help remove barriers for people attending the Octagon.

This opportunity is open to people aged 18 plus who live in Bolton.

The Octagon is keen to recruit people from groups currently underrepresented in their audiences and activities, including: people who have families with children under 10, people from South Asian communities, people with disabilities or access needs, and members of their affordable ticket scheme.

The Octagon’s Community Engagement Lead, Niparun Nessa said: “We believe theatre matters because everyone’s story matters; everyone should have access to the arts, and we want to remove barriers and ensure our work reaches as many people as possible.

“We are looking to recruit community connectors who are passionate about sharing and amplifying arts and culture at the Octagon and across Bolton.

"Our community connectors will act as champions, improve attendance and improve customer experiences for those from underrepresented groups, improve accessibility, enhance community relationships, and enrich cultural experiences.”
