Asos customers can now expect to pay a fee for returning their unwanted items as the fashion brand makes a big change to its policy.

Returns of items that are no longer wanted by customers are usually free but now, some customers will be charged £3.95 for sending a return back to the company.

Some Asos customers were alerted of the change when they received an email detailing the new process over the weekend.

If customers place an order with Asos and keep less than £40 worth of the items they ordered, they will have to pay £3.95 which will be taken off their refund total, BBC News reports.

The email was sent to customers who the company believes have a “frequently high return rate”.

What is a frequently high return rate at Asos?

While Asos hasn’t specifically detailed what a frequently high return rate, it says that most customers won’t be affected by the change.

Speaking to the BBC, Asos said: “We’re making this change so that we can continue offering free returns to all our customers.”

It added: “For a small group of UK customers with a frequently high return rate whose shopping habits make offering them unconditional free returns unsustainable, they can still get free returns when they keep £40 or more of their order.”

What happens for customers who pay for premium delivery?

Those who pay for Asos Premier which offers next day delivery will be allowed to return orders for free if they keep at least £15 worth of their order.

Asos customers in France, Germany and the US were introduced to the new threshold for free returns earlier this year.
