There is so much to take in with this photograph showing Bolton bus station in July 1939.
Notice how busy it is with coaches and buses all lined up possibly to take holidaymakers on the annual wakes weeks excursions.
In the foreground are the ticket offices with Ribble offering a trip to Blackpool for five shillings (25p). Back left you can see the Odeon Cinema and in front of it a fairground appears to be in full swing. complete with waltzers, a merry-go-round and numerous stalls.
There is also a certain poignancy to the photograph as it was taken just weeks before the outbreak of the Second World War.
