The business planning to purchase a site from Bolton Council for around three quarters of a million pounds has been revealed in a report - and has another site just up the road from the land in question.
Paint producer Sherwin Williams is said in the report to be behind plans for a £10 million "Centre of Excellence" to go with its Tower Works HQ pending the approval of the agreement.
It is understood the manufacturer was looking at purchasing the site of what was Bolton Parish CE Primary School but this was not progressed for a range of reasons. Now the manufacturer is looking at purchasing the site to the south of what was the primary school where there is around two acres of unused land including an unused play area on Kestor Street.
The council's cabinet member for corporate property, Cllr Sue Haworth, is asked to approve the agreement under the council's Strategic Asset Management Plan (SAMP) next week.
A report said: "Other sites have been considered by Sherwin Williams, including a facility in Poland, in the US and in the UK outside of the borough of Bolton. It is beneficial both to Bolton and to Sherwin-Williams that the facility is at Kestor Street."
The price of around three quarters of a million pounds is the result of two Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors surveys and it is to be spent at least in part on a play area on a separate site.
The play area on a separate site is to be subject to a consultation at some time this year.
The council's cabinet member for corporate property, Cllr Haworth, said: "These proposals are an example of our Strategic Asset Management Plan in action and I will consider them in detail at the upcoming meeting."
After the approval of the agreement Sherwin Williams is to apply for planning permission for the £10 million Centre of Excellence within a period of six months. The Bolton News asked Sherwin Williams for a comment.
