Students can now save even more on rail travel by using a simple code with TransPennine Express.

As freshers travel to their new halls of residence and returning students head back to university, TPE is giving them a helping hand with a money-saving code which will give them half-price tickets.

Students with a 16-25 railcard can enjoy a 50 per cent discount instead of the usual one-third discount from their railcard, by booking directly with the train company by simply entering the code TPESTUDENT when buying via the TPE app or by following the link and clicking on the orange ‘buy tickets’ button.

Darren Higgins, commercial director for TransPennine Express, said: "Whether you’re heading off to university, visiting friends or just fancy exploring a new city, you can now bag yourself a bargain with our student offer.

"With our network serving more than 40 universities across the north of England and Scotland, we’re delighted to be able to offer 50 percent savings on rail travel to students."

With the 50 per cent discount, students can travel across destinations on the TPE network, such as Liverpool to Leeds, for as little as £6.60 and Edinburgh to Newcastle for just £4.70.

The 50 percent discount applies to TransPennine Express Standard Advance Purchase tickets only and Standard Airport Advance tickets to and from Manchester Airport.

Full terms and conditions can be found on TPE’s website.

The 50 per cent discount is a continuous offer.
