This photo from 1961 shows the appalling state of the roads around Daubhill.
This was Frinton Road where heavy rains had turned the street into a quagmire and where residents were campaigning to get something done about it.
The situation was so bad that the Bolton Evening News at the time reported that a small child had fallen into one of the large pools which hard formed on the road and had to be rescued.
This photo shows one resident trying to negotiate the puddles and the mud suitably dressed in waterproof coat and wellies.
