Bolton Little Theatre stages classic play by Arnold Ridley

Penned by Arnold Ridley, famously known for his role as "Godfrey" in Dad's Army, the play is an engaging mix of comedy and suspense.

The show will be staged from Monday, September 9 to Saturday, September 14.

Director Carol Butler shared her enthusiasm for the upcoming performances.

She said: "Not many people realise that this is the same man who played 'Godfrey' in the show.

"As well as being a fine actor, he was also a very successful playwright."

In The Ghost Train, an unlikely group of passengers, including both bickering spouses and love-struck newlyweds, find themselves stranded at a remote, presumably haunted train station.

Carol added: "The play has become something of a minor classic, and a play I've wanted to direct for years.

"I played 'Julia' myself many years ago so I already knew what an excellent story it was."

BLT regular Peter Scofield steps into the shoes of "Station Master Saul Hodgkin", while Craig Harris and Charlotte Carlin portray the troubled married couple, "Richard Winthrop" and "Elsie".

Charlotte elaborated on their on-screen relationship.

She said: "Their relationship is in trouble and my character seems determined to separate from her husband – the night has some very unsettling events in store for them."

First-timers Joe Beck and Wendy Wilson play "Charles" and "Peggy Murdoch", a newlywed couple whose honeymoon is not quite what they had planned.

Joe said: "They are still in the first throes of passion and very much in love - but would rather not be spending their first night as man and wife bunked up in a ramshackle waiting room."

Sue Mallett and Jim Smith are along for the chilling ride as well, playing the mysterious "Julia Price" and "John Sterling".

Sue added: "I won't give the ending away, suffice it to say not everyone is quite who they seem."
