Horses and riders will be saddling up later in September to help teach drivers vital safety skills.

The “Pass Wide and Slow” ride will be taking place through Chew Moor village on Saturday, September 14 and will start at Seddon Farm before finishing at the Duke of Wellington pub.

The riders will aim to raise awareness of how important it is for drivers to reduce their speed and leave plenty of space when passing horses.

Pass Wide and Slow Lostock spokesperson Debbie Barry said: “The ride is part of a campaign to raise awareness and educate drivers on how to pass horses safely whilst sharing the roads.

“It’s the group’s aim to ask road users to be continually mindful of their driving behaviour around horses.”

The group recommends that when passing by horses, drivers should reduce their speed to around 10mph and leave at least two metres of space.
