Travellers have moved on to Harper Green Playing Fields following a previous eviction notice in Farnworth.
It is understood that around half a dozen caravans moved to the playing fields yesterday afternoon, Monday, following an eviction from Doe Hey Park, where they were said to have arrived on bank holiday Monday (August 26).
It has been reported that the gate to the playing fields has been broken.
Council officers have served eviction notices to the Travellers and asked them to leave the site.
Farnworth North Cllr Sue Haworth said: “Travellers did inform the council that they would leave Doe Hey Park on Monday.
“The property damage needs reporting and dealing with as there’s a cost every time a gate or fence is broken up, to get on to the land.
“I’m sorry for the inconvenience for local residents, especially those who like to make use of all the open fields for sports and dog walking.”
Cllr Haworth added: “Since the necessary closure of the Travellers site off Hall Lane, Travellers are moving from unauthorised plot land to unauthorised plot land almost on a weekly basis.
“Officers carry out the relevant actions to get numerous evictions is taking up time and resources.
“I hope there is a way to remedy this merry-go-round situation. I know there are residents worried now on a weekly basis that green land will have caravans and vehicles on it when it is not what the land is for.”
In response to the situation, a council spokesperson said: "We are aware of the Traveller site at Doe Hay Park.
"Welfare checks have been carried out and we are following the legal process to secure a direction to leave.”
