The M60 was closed near Oldham in the early hours of Saturday morning as the police responded to a concern for welfare.
It was closed in both directions between J22 (Oldham) and J23 (Ashton-Under-Lyne) while police dealt with the incident.
Police said they were called to a concern for welfare at 3.30am at Junction 22 near Oldham.
Traffic was stopped as Cheshire Police led the response.
National Highways confirmed the M60 was closed between the J22 and J23 in both directions about an hour after police arrived on the scene.
At around 6.30am, a National Highways spokesperson said: “All lanes have been re-opened in both directions following the earlier incident and delays have been cleared.”
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “Police were called at around 3.30am this morning (31 August) to a concern for welfare report of a man near the M60 near Junction 22.
“Emergency services attended and he was taken to hospital with no injuries reported.”
