Train services in Bolton have been disrupted this evening (August 28) due to a fault on a train.

Northern says services between Bolton and Salford Crescent have been disrupted.

Northern’s maintenance team has been unable to resolve the fault. A ‘rescue train’ has been sourced.

The train operating company said the train is now moving forwards from Bolton and will help the broken-down train.

Ticket restrictions have been lifted and customers may travel via any reasonable route with Northern to reach their destination.

Customers may travel with TransPennine Express, via any reasonable route, until 9pm.

A spokesperson for Northern said: “Services between Bolton and Salford Crescent are being disrupted due to a fault on a train.

“Our maintenance teams have been unable to resolve the fault and a rescue train has now been sourced. This train is now moving forward from Bolton and will go forwards to assist the broken-down train.

“Ticket restrictions have been lifted during this disruption and customers may travel via any reasonable route with Northern to reach their destination.

“Customers may travel with TransPennine Express via any reasonable route until 9pm. Customers may use Manchester Metrolink between Manchester stations and Ashton-under-Lyne, in both directions, until further notice.

“Two rail replacement coaches will depart Bolton at around 7.50pm, all stops to Salford Crescent.”
