A Bolton man has spoken out about the moment a tree collapsed into his home.
Paul Greensitt lives on Meadland Grove in Astley Bridge.
This morning, at around 6.45am, a mature sycamore tree toppled in to Paul’s home, damaging his property.
Paul said: “There’s no actual damage to the house or the conservatory, but obviously the garage and the greenhouse are absolutely crumpled to bits.”
Paul was nonchalant about the impact, however, saying he is covered by insurance.

Already awake when the tree fell, Paul said: “At first I looked out and thought it was the conservatory, but no it’s right up against the house without causing any damage.
“This tree is actually older than the house, and the house was built in the 50s.”
Now, Paul says some nearby residents with chainsaws are going to come around and remove the tree for him.
He added: “There’s some people who have horses and such, they’re all tooled up with chainsaws and everything – in due course they’ll come around and remove the tree – but I don’t think he appreciates how big this thing is!”

The damage comes after a day of disruption to transport networks in around Bolton, with the A666 blocked for hours due to a fallen tree, leaving motorists stranded.
Rail infrastructure was also disrupted, with the Clitheroe line seeing cancellations among others, and Manchester Metrolink services nearly all suspended.
Bolton’s Food and Drink Festival has also been affected, with festivities postponed until Saturday after high winds damaged stalls and stages used for the event.
It comes a day after the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for this morning, warning that gusts of up to 80mph could be seen in the borough.
