The family of a “warrior” 36-year-old mother of two with an aggressive “triple negative” breast cancer have started a GoFundMe page to help raise money for her life-saving private treatment.
Stacey Withington, who lives in Deane, was diagnosed with breast cancer for the first time in 2022 shortly after giving birth to her daughter, Sophia, via C-section. At the time, Stacey was also completing her Master’s degree in positive psychology at the University of Bolton.
For the past two years, Stacey has been undergoing forms of chemotherapy, radiotherapy, several surgeries and most recently underwent a double mastectomy and a Deep Inferior Epigastric Perforator (DIEP) breast reconstruction.
Whilst recovering from her surgery, Stacey was informed that the cancer had spread to her brain.
Her family have started a GoFundMe page to pay for life-saving private treatment in Germany which will last for six months.
Stacey’s mother, Gina Withington said: “Sophia, Stacey’s youngest has never even had the chance to see her mummy healthy.
“She wants nothing more than to see her kids grow up. She’s a true woman’s warrior, she’s done so much charity work to help others over the years, given countless hours and always put other people first – that’s how she’s got through.
“Now, we need as much help as we can to help save Stacey by getting her specialist treatment.”
In total £35,000 is needed to pay for Stacey’s treatment, the page has already raised seven and a half thousand pounds in two days.
Lee Whelan, Stacey’s long-term partner said: “Stacey is a mother of two young kids, a two-year-old daughter and a six-year-old son, she wants nothing more than to see them grow up.”
Earlier this year, Stacey co-authored a best-selling novel detailing her cancer journey titled, If I Could Tell Her. The book, which made it to The Sunday Times bestseller list, features seven women sharing stories of courage, inspiration, strength, and growth, to offer hope and give advice to their younger selves.
Stacey has also dedicated much of her time to raising money for charities. In 2018 she successfully completed a skydive of 15,000ft to raise money for children’s hospital, Make A Wish, the highest you can go in the UK.
Gina said: “Any amount of money would be a massive help. We are so determined to raise funding to save Stacey.
“We are trying our best to stay hopeful. It’s not over until Stacey says it’s over.”
