Restaurants across Bolton and beyond are “currying” out their dreams as finalists for the first Manchester Curry Awards 2024 have been announced.

The shortlist for Bolton’s ‘Curry Restaurant of the Year Award’ includes seven curry restaurants in the local area.

Other awards include venues in Manchester, Wigan, Salford, Trafford, Bury, Rochdale, Stockport and Oldham.

The winners will be announced at an elegant ceremony that will be held on the 30th of September.

A spokesperson for the 1st Manchester Curry Awards 2024 said: “We’re very proud of how we’ve been able to grow the curry awards and celebrate the vibrant curry scene in the UK.

“We felt Manchester was worth highlighting as its done so much for the modern British curry. We want to congratulate all our finalists and wish them the best of luck.”

The awards celebrate the restaurants, takeaways and personalities that have played a significant role in Manchester’s culture and their economic contributions.

Of the twenty-six award categories, others include: ‘Outstanding Curry Restaurant’, ‘Takeaway of the Year’, ‘Outstanding Indian Takeaway of the Year’ and ‘Pakistani Restaurant of the Year’.

The awards also celebrate individuals such as ‘Chef of the Year’, ‘Restaurant Manager of the Year’ and ‘Restaurant Team of the Year’.

One of the restaurants shortlisted in the ‘Best of Greater Manchester’ category is Bolton’s Royal Balti House.

Owner Managing director of the Royal Balti House, Atikur Sabur said: “As one of the oldest Indian restaurants in Bolton who has been running for 35 years, we are heavily involved in the community and are well known in the industry as we have been around for a while.

“It’s been a tough year economically for the hospitality industry so its exciting to be nominated for an award. We have seen other restaurants in the local area close and hope that being shortlisted will give us a big boost and help our business.

“We have also been nominated for an English Curry Award and will find out the results in October. We are excited to find out the results in the run up to Christmas.”
