A new tearoom style cafe has opened in the Last Drop Village, adding to Bolton's growing reputation as a food and drink destination.

The Bakehouse 1964 adds to the number of places to eat in Bromley Cross' popular village attraction, and a great pit spot for people enjoying walks around the area.

As someone who thrives on coffee and pastries, I decided to take a trip there.

‘The Bakehouse’ café is located on-site of the hotel and spa which is based on the West Pennine moors.

Aside from the café the four-star venue features an a la carte restaurant, a bar and a traditional country pub as well as offering private dining experiences.

The Bakehouse offers visitors the unique chance to customise their own grilled cheese toasted sandwiches, offering an array of tasty fillings such as ham, chicken, chutney and jalapenos.

Guests can choose from three cheeses: blue cheese, brie and smoked Lancashire.

Spa members are also entitled to a 20 per cent discount on food and drink.

As well as toasties, the Bakehouse also sells home-made tray bakes (I highly recommend trying their deliciously chocolatey rocky road), chocolate chip cookies and sweet stuffed croissants. Ice cream and freshly juices are also available to purchase, so I was really spoiled for choice.

I ended up trying their home-made rocky road slice and a caramel latte. The generous portion of rocky road was scrumptiously superb, with the perfect ratio of gooey marshmallow to biscuit.

Their caramel latte was also generous in portion size and left little to be desired, appealing to my sweet-toothed self. The drink also came in a bio-degradable cup, which earned it extra points.

The service was also exceptional, and staff were friendly, although the café wasn’t too busy during my visit.

Other amenities at the Last Drop Village Hotel and Spa include an 18m indoor pool, thermal suites, saunas and steam rooms, treatment rooms and a gymnasium. The hotel is also partnered with Turton Golf Club and the Old Links Golf Club offering a challenging play for golfers at every level.

Bromley Cross councillor Samantha Connor said: “The new Bakehouse café is a welcome addition to the community.

“The café is a fantastic place for dog walkers and walkers alike to stop in for a bite to eat and a drink, situated in the beautiful surroundings of Last Drop Village.”

Overall, I would recommend “the Bakehouse” to those looking to try out a new café.
