The Sixth Form Bolton has exceeded expectations this year with an A-level pass rate of 98 per cent.

The school has one of the highest national progression rates to Higher Education out of all the categories of post-16 education.

And this year, 72 per cent of subjects achieved a 100 per cent pass rate, and 98 per cent of BTEC Extended Diploma students achieving higher-grade passes exceeding National Benchmarks.

Students celebrated their results over a breakfast bar and looked forward to the future.

Coran Simpson, 18, received three A*  in chemistry, physics and maths and A in further Maths.

He will be taking on a Masters degree in physics in Imperial College London.

“I am hoping to get a job in academia, hopefully a doctorate.”

He said: “It was such a high offer to get accepted in Imperial, but I ended up exceeding it.

Despite his glowing results, he was anxious on the day.

He said: “I was up at 3:00 am this morning. I was nervous and couldn’t sleep.

“It was really hard this year.”

Dylan Rowlands will study maths after getting three As in biology, chemistry and maths A-levels.

He said: “I’m very happy about it. The last chemistry paper was the most difficult, but the others had parts that were not too bad.”

He is going to study maths at the University of Sheffield, and then “see what happens.”

He said: “I enjoy maths. I enjoy going in depth with things and knowing why things are the way they are.”

Zeng Tham, 18, is looking forward to an arts career.

She said of her results: “I think I’ve done pretty well. I’m proudest of my art grade which I got which is an A* and that’s what I want to pursue.

"I’m happy with my other results as well, which were a mix. Biology, science and geography.

“I’m planning on going to Nottingham Trent for illustration. I’m going down the art route.”

Betool Saleh is planning to pursue optometry.

She received an A in Maths, B in physics and a B in biology A-levels.

She said: "I was worried, it was really overwhelming getting my grades back, but it's what I need for university.

"Physics was really hard, but maths and biology were ok. So much studying over two years for these exams." 

She is going on to study optometry at University of Manchester. 

She said: "The dream is to be an optometrist, or go into research about contact lenses. I think seeing is cool and I'd like to know the science behind it."
