An A-Level student at Canon Slade Sixth-Form is taking on the big stage after securing a prestigious scholarship for Laine Theatre Arts College in Epsom to study musical theatre.
Melissa Fletcher achieved two A’s in her A-levels in dance and theatre studies, and one B in sociology.
She said: “I auditioned [for the scholarship] in December and didn’t find out I’d received it until May.
"Between balancing my dance exams, driving lessons and auditions, I can hold my head up high and say I’ve done it.”
Melissa, who has been dancing from the age of two-years old, received an unconditional offer for the Dance and Drama Awards Scholarship Scheme (DaDAs) earlier this year, which offers annual scholarship to exceptionally talented performing arts students.
DaDAs also offers reduced tuition fees and assistance with living costs for the duration of the course.
Melissa said: “I’m so grateful to be able to pursue musical theatre, which blends my passion for singing, acting and dancing.
It’s so exciting to move to London later this year and I’m ready to soak up all the opportunities there and take every opportunity to perform.”
