A man has suffered life-changing injuries after a "serious assault" in Bolton, police have said. 

The attack took place on Chorley Old Road at around 4.40pm this afternoon. 

The man was taken to hospital, suffering "serious life-changing injuries", but which are not believed to be life-threatening. 

No arrests have been made at this time. Officers say the attack is believed to have been targeted.

Police and paramedics were at the main road's junction with Marsh Fold Lane this evening, with bloodstains on the floor. 

A GMP spokesperson said: "At around 4.40pm today, August 10, officers were called to reports of a serious assault on Chorley Old Road, Bolton.

"One man was taken to hospital with serious life-changing injuries not believed to be life-threatening at this time.

"No arrests have yet been made and enquiries are ongoing. It is believed to be a targeted attack with no wider threat to the community.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting log 2339 of 10/08/24."

He added: "Alternatively, you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111." 

Multiple police cars and ambulances were seen on Chorley Old Road outside of a Premier convenience shop.

Hassan Gujjar, who owns the shop, said: “It happened at around 5pm. Police and ambulance were on scene. 

“Later on CSI came. It was closed off for around two and a half hours.

”It is crazy.”

Another witness reported seeing a man who had been attacked in the area.
