A British Transport Police officer assaulted another police officer while he was off duty at a hotel in Leeds.

PC Daniel Cox was at Thorpe Park Hotel & Spa in West Yorkshire at the time of the incident on May 18.

According to British Transport Police PC Cox, who worked in Greater Manchester, assaulted another police officer who was in attendance at the hotel after reports of threats towards the staff by PC Cox.

The force said he pushed the officer for a first time, seized them by their Tactical Vest, pushed the officer for a second time and scratched their thumb and their wrist.

Around two weeks later he received a community order after admitting assaulting an emergency worker at West Yorkshire Magistrates Court.

He resigned from his role but after a tribunal last month Chief Constable Lucy D'Orsi came to the conclusion he was guilty of Gross Misconduct.

Chief Constable D'Orsi said if he had not resigned from his role he would have been sacked on the spot.

Chief Constable D'Orsi said: "[PC Cox's] actions are unacceptable and are unreflective of the high standards demonstrated daily by British Transport Police.

"There is no place for this former officer in British Transport Police or wider policing."
