A Bolton gym has announced it will be closing early after “advice from the police.”
The Nuffield Health Bolton Fitness and Wellbeing Gym based on Eagley Brook Way in Astley Bridge made the announcement earlier today, Wednesday August 7.
This comes after disturbances in the town centre the previous Sunday and speculation about further planned demonstrations in the town.
A spokesperson for Nuffield Health said: “At Nuffield Health, the safety of our members and employees is our top priority.
“Based on advice from the police, we will be closing our Bolton Fitness & Wellbeing Centre at 7pm this evening.”
The Eagley Brook Way gym usually maintains opening hours between 6.30am and 10pm on weekdays and between 8am and 8pm at the weekend.
But on Wednesday it has been shortened to 7pm.
A number of other places reduced their opening hours today, including Morrisons in the town centre, Sainsbury's Wickes and TK Maxx on Trinity Street.
Sainsbury had a note on its door saying it would shut early because of 'planned protests' (picture below). Morrisons note stated: "Unfortunately this store will be closing at 7pm. We will reopen at normal time. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Several people have been arrested since the events of last Sunday, with many having since been charged with a range of offences and brought before the courts.
A solicitor’s firm in the town has also been included on a list of firms across the country that specialise in immigration issues that was allegedly put together by far-right activists.
This claims that the firms will be targeted for further action on Wednesday evening, provoking widespread condemnation and appeals for calm.
