Concerns have been raised following a crash at an accident blackspot.

The crash took place on Darwen Road, Bromley Cross, at 1.50am on Wednesday.

It was between two cars.

Four people suffered minor injuries, two of which were taken to hospital.

A NWAS spokesperson said: "At 1.56am, two ambulances and a response vehicle were called to Darwen Road, Bromley Cross.

"Four patients suffered minor injuries and there were no serious injuries."

The road was closed throughout the night, with GMP saying the road was reopened at 7.30am.

Police said that two people were taken to hospital.

Skid marks and sand could be seen on the road yesterday afternoon near to where the crash happened.

Ward councillor Nadim Muslim said: "Before rushing to conclusions we need to be aware of the facts."

But he added that the road needed to be made safer and he was working with police and transport authorities.

Although this crash is subject to an investigation, it has prompted concerns about motorists on the road.

He said "There are always going to be people speeding, if they want to do it they are going to.

Cllr Muslim said: "We need to make sure those who are are prevented where possible or caught. I'm happy to continue working with the police.

"I have asked TfGM for a review of the placement of speed cameras, because as it currently stands there has to be two fatalities for a camera to be set up."

He added: "It seems ridiculous that there needs to be two deaths before it gets to that.

"We have been saying for a long time speeding has been an issue in Bromley Cross. Thankfully there hadn't been anything for a while."

One resident said: "I did hear it but didn't see what happened. We just checked that everyone was okay.

"As far as we could see everyone was mostly okay, they said they were okay.

"There have been so many crashes. One lady passed away, there was also one further down at the top of Hough Lane.

"We do have quite a few. I think a lot of the time people don't realise when coming round the bend how fast they are going and a lot of accidents happen."

She added: "We had speed cameras but they don't deter it all.

"They were young lads, I felt sorry for them especially as we have a young lad."

Another resident said: "I was in bed when I heard a massive bang. There was a red car and a black one.

"There were quite a few people outside. There have been loads of crashes here before, there was one where the woman died."

There was a fatal accident on the road last year and a crash on the road in March this year as  between three vehicles at the junction with Guild Street.
