Visitors can see 30 working steam engines this bank holiday.

The stationary engines will run using steam as they were in the Victorian era.

The 'In Steam' demonstrations will happen on August 25 and August 26 at 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at Bolton Steam Museum on Mornington Road (off Chorley Old Road).

Museum volunteers have rescued and restored the engines, most being well over 100 years old. The oldest is 180 years old.

The engines once powered the cotton and woollen mills of the North of England. Five are from Bolton.

Bolton Steam Museum has the largest collection of working textile mill steam engines in Europe.

It is normally only open on Wednesdays and Sundays from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, when visitors are welcome, and a few engines are run using electric motors.

The ‘In Steam’ demonstrations will also occur on October 26 and 27 and December 28 and 29 from 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM.
