This was the town’s Public Health Department’s solution to curing the good folk of Bolton of the winter blues back in 1939.
The photo shows the opening of a new sun ray treatment room operated by the department in the recently opened Civic Centre.
Among the hi-tech equipment at the time were ultra-violet and infra-red lamps and various other heat devices.
It all looks a little intimidating doesn’t it? Let’s hope that they provided protective goggles for the patients.
