This was the scene in Walkden town centre almost exactly 60 years ago.
Like so many towns across the North West in the Sixties, Walkden was experiencing major development work and here you can see a new shopping precinct taking shape wit, in the background, a civic hall under construction.
Building work or not, it wasn’t going to stop the women pictured from doing their shopping.
It’s interesting to see the prices on display on the left - a shoulder of New Zealand lamb for one shilling and nine pence and Coca Cola or Fanta for just nine pence.
