A Bolton company has praised its carers after a positive report from the health inspectorate.

Rings Homecare was visited by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) for an inspection this year.

The care company, which is based on St Helens Road, provides care in the community rather than being based at a residential home.

The assessment took place between May 10 and May 14 this year.

It was given ‘good’ ratings for all criteria, those being safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led, as well as for its overall rating.

The report says: "People and their relatives told us safe care was provided by staff who knew people well and staff wore personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

"Staff were recruited safely; pre-employment checks were completed to ensure applicants were of suitable character to work with vulnerable people.

"People and relatives spoke positively about the timeliness of care visits and the continuity of care and carers. Medicines were managed safely.

"Staff received enough training, supervision and support to carry out their roles safely and effectively. The provider had an up to date safeguarding policy and the registered manager followed the local authority reporting guidance."

At the time of the assessment, the company provided personal care to 32 people.

The report adds: "We spoke with three relatives and one person using the service about their experiences of the quality of care. The feedback we received was positive and reflected a service focused on providing good standards of care.

"Everyone consistently reported the care provided to be very good, with no issues raised; a recent change in management was reported to have improved the service to a great extent. People and relatives knew how to complain but had not needed to.

"A relative told us, 'care is very good and the staff are all extremely kind and caring. There is great communication across the board with all the care staff and management and any problems they respond and liaise extremely well.'"

Karen Murray, the registered manager at Rings Homecare, said: "We have endeavoured to involve our staff in every aspect of the service.

"When you engage you get more out of them, they feel more involved.

"We have invested in things like the worker of the month, where they can get a £50 Asda voucher and a box of chocolates.

"It is a recognition of the work you're doing. Homecare can be a lonely, thankless job. The pay is not brilliant and I think they work hard and do a lot work with service users that can be really challenging.

"They deserve recognition. The report is lovely, it is really positive and recognises the work they're doing."
