This great photo dates back to 1931 and shows an impressive new development taking shape in Bolton town centre.
The curved building was being constructed at the corner of Oxford Street and Deansgate. The wooden signs you can see on the scaffolding surrounding the building referred interested parties in the new shops to contact a firm in Manchester.
According to the Bolton Evening News at the time, the picture was taken from the roof of Redhead’s, described as a silk merchant and general drapers, based at 5-7 Knowsley Street which is possibly now Knowsley House where the Bolton News currently has its offices.
