The men and boys who lost their lives in one of the country's worst mining disasters will be remembered this weekend.
Historian Alan Davies will speak about the Pretoria Pit Disaster as he leads people on a lecture tour of what used to be the mine.
The Pretoria Disaster remains to this day the third-largest UK mining tragedy.
On December 21, 1910 344 local men and boys were killed in an underground explosion at the Hulton Colliery on the Atherton Bolton boundary.
On Saturday, August 3, the Over Hulton Community Group have organised Pretoria Ruins Lecture Tour.
The meeting place is at the Pretoria Memorial on Broadway off Newbrook Road. The event starts at 10am and lasts just over two hours.
Mr Davies will gives a full and detailed account of the cause, event and aftermath and we walk into the woods to see the still visible ruins.
Stout footwear is essential.
The charge is £4 per adult, under 14s £3.
