The Met Office have issued an updated weather warning for Bolton with risk of thunderstorms, flooding and large hail causing disruption on Thursday.

With between 25-50mm of rain expected to fall within one to two hours, as well as risk of frequent lightning, thunder, large hail and high winds, they have said there is a danger to life.

Residents have urged people to prepare a flood plan if their property is at risk of flooding and take measures to protect their homes.

The warning will now be in effect from 12.00am (midnight) until 23.59pm on Thursday August 1- 12 hours earlier than the previous warning.

Storms could see the risk of 'spray and sudden flooding' causing a risk to people driving and motorists have been told to check travel information before travelling.

There is also the potential that rail and bus services may be cancelled as a result of flooding and lightning strikes.

Power cuts are also a potential in the storms, with people having been advised to gather torches, batteries, a mobile phone power pack and other essential items.

Temporary structures and moveable objects should be secured, including gazebos, trampolines, bins, garden furniture, tents, sheds, and fences.

Some buildings may also be damaged as a result of flood water, lightning and hail.
