A Bolton MP has met with representatives from a leading charity to support people from the Hong Kong community.

Phil Brickell, MP for Bolton West, says that this comes after he was contacted by people from the community in his constituency.

This comes after recent events in the region that have sparked widespread concerns amongst Hong Kongers living in the UK and their families.

Mr Brickell said: “I’ve been contacted by members of the Hong Kong communities across our towns.

“Many have raised concerns about recent developments in HK and made enquiries about public services locally.

“So it was good to discuss these issues in further detail last week with Hong Kong Watch, a leading charity set up to promote the rule of law in HK and support Hong Kongers here in the UK.

“We covered lots of ground, including student tuition fees, the rights of BNO passport holders and ensuring human rights are upheld in Hong Kong.

“I look forward to working with Hong Kongers across Bolton West to ensure they feel safe here.”

Hong Kong watch is a registered charity which says its role is to defend “fundamental freedoms and human rights guaranteed under the Basic Law and the Sino-British Joint Declaration.”
