A MAN found himself in the dock after average speed cameras in Flintshire clocked him driving in excess of the limit.

Ashley Derbyshire, of Danesbury Road in Bolton, appeared at Mold Magistrates Court on Monday.

The 38-year-old had previously pleaded guilty to one offence of speeding.

Brian Robinson, prosecuting, told the court that just before 11.20pm on December 10 last year, the average speed cameras at Deeside Industrial Park were activated by the defendant, who was clocked at 58mph in the 50 zone.

He was offered a speed awareness course, but didn't complete it - and a fixed penalty, but didn't comply.

Defending himself at the hearing, Derbyshire assured the court he "didn't ignore anything."

He said: "I moved house and just didn't know who to ring.

"By the time I got in touch with North Wales Police, they said it's too late.

"I had booked onto the speed awareness course but then got called into work."

The court handed down a £72 fine and ordered Derbyshire to pay a £28 victim surcharge.

He also received three penalty points, bringing the current total on his licence to six.
