A residential road which is used as a cut-through will close next month for resurfacing works.

New Chapel Lane in Horwich is a popular shortcut that links the two main roads between the town and Bolton, Chorley New Road and Chorley Old Road.

The entire street is set to be closed from August 19 for "approximately one week, weather permitting".

The closure will be from its junction with Claypool Road to Chorley Old Road.

It will be resurfaced after locals have complained about multiple potholes, and speed bumps not being in a good state.

Bolton Council says access to properties "will be maintained", but that there will be times that it is restricted due to the works. It also asks residents to keep the road clear of vehicles during the working day to allow he work to take place.

Ward councillor Ryan Bamforth has been pushing for the works to be done.

He said: "This started 12 months ago. There are potholes all over the place, it is not fit for purpose.

"The speed bumps are not in a good state, some of them could cause damage to cars. That is getting redone and we are getting the response wanted, and it is much-needed.

"If you go out there when Wanderers are playing, it is chock-a-block.

"It is an absolute nightmare to go up and down. I use it often on my way home."

He added: "To our knowledge, new speed humps will be put back in. I have been fighting for this since being elected in 2023.

"The council might not have moved quicker than people like, but this shows that they are doing things.

"Residents say they would like them to move faster, but it is not any one person's fault, it can be any number of factors."
