A major road in Bolton was closed off after a car overturned in a two vehicle crash.

The A666 Blackburn Road was closed by police north of Egerton after the collision, which is believed to have taken place at around 2.30pm today, July 26. 

The main road, which joins Bolton with Darwen and Blackburn, was said to have been closed off after the incident, which took place between Stones Bank Road North and Stones Bank Road South. 

Watch Manager Carl Gleaves at Bolton North Fire Station said: "We were called out at around 2.30pm, one vehicle turned over.

"It was a police incident, we were only on scene for around 20 minutes.

"It was right on the border between Greater Manchester and Lancashire. We isolated the car battery to prevent any ignition." 

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: "Earlier, we let you know of a Road Traffic Accident which took place on the A666 Blackburn Road, Belmont. The road has now reopened.

"Thank-you for your patience." 

A spokesperson for NWAS said: "It was an RTC involving two cars, one overturned. We sent two ambulances and one response car to the scene.

"We took one patient to Royal Bolton Hospital."
