Young people had the most paw-fect of tales to tell during their last week of school after having a visit from Cliff , a beautiful dog.

The four legged friend visited St James CE High School in Farnworth and the pupils could not wait to meet him and read aloud to him.

Cliff is a number of dogs which visit schools to encourage young people to read aloud to increase confidence, interest and enjoyment.

And he proved to be the most perfect audience member.

Catherine Featherston, assistant head of English, said: "They had fun sharing stories with Cliff as well as writing their own mini sagas about him, which they also read to him.

"The pupils thoroughly enjoyed this experience, describing it as 'relaxing, calming and exciting'.

"They also stated that it 'cheered' them up and they loved having 'lots of cuddles. Pupils thoroughly enjoyed this opportunity to read in a “paw-some” way."

The dog's visit was part of the Pets As Therapy Read2Dogs scheme.
