Staff at a town centre restaurant have a lot to be chipper about.

Olympus Restaurant on Great Moor Street won big at England's Business Awards in the 'Best Fish and Chip Shop' category for Manchester.

The popular restaurant prides itself on combining traditional fish and chips - and more -in an elegant restaurant setting, something that it has done since  1988.

Diners can enjoy background piano music, with musicians regularly playing, a pleasant garden at the back and even an ice cream counter.

Owner, Tasos Pattichis, emphasised that Bolton businesses need to work together for the good of the town centre.

He said: "Because we have been open since 1988, we have regular customers throughout this town and other towns.

"We regularly get coaches come through, they come back time and time again.

"There are excursions, where they will come for an overnight stay in say Manchester or the Lake District.

"When they are in Bolton, I will personally do their itineraries, so I'll suggest they go to Bolton and use the markets, or go to Bolton Museum or the Octagon, or Bury Market. It helps the town a lot."

He added: "We are always happy to go along and find another award, to put our name out there.

"We put ourselves in the limelight, but it also helps the town centre. If people hear 'apparently Bolton has best chippy', new faces come to see us and they will wander around the town, and it has a knock-on effect."

Tasos added: "It was so well presented, the event. I was quite impressed, it was like going to the BAFTAs.

"When we were nominated they said to come down, but didn't say who had won. I didn't expect to win.

"It was full black tie, with around 200 people there."

He added: "I would like to thank the staff themselves, from working for a couple of years through to 24, 25 years.

"They are loyal people, wonderful workers and it is this teamwork that has helped. My mum has also been involved for years and years."

He also thanked customers for their votes, saying: "We can't thank them enough for their loyalty, they are the most important - without them we wouldn't have this award."

After having won the Good Food Award last year, Olympus is again nominated in the awards.

Alisha Heathcote, secretary at the restaurant, said: "We won the award in November last year and have been nominated this year, making it two years running.

"It just drives home that we are serious about the quality of the food we serve and our customer service."
