Five people, including two children, suffered serious injuries in a crash on the M6 yesterday afternoon.

Emergency services were called at 2pm (Monday, July 22) to the southbound carriage of the M6 at Billsborough, near Preston, between junctions 33 and 32.

The crash left five people with serious injuries, including the driver of the car, a man in his 30s, who suffered head injuries and is in a critical condition in hospital.

Four passengers in the car, a woman in her 60s, a woman in her 20s and two children, also suffered serious injuries and are being treated in hospital.

Police officers attended and found that a Seat Altea had left the carriageway and rolled several times.

The motorway was closed for several hours while officers investigated the collision.

They are now appealing for witnesses and footage to help their enquiries.  

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: "We are appealing for witnesses and footage after a collision on the M6 which left five people with serious injuries.

"The emergency services were called at 2pm yesterday (July 22) to the southbound carriage of the M6 at Billsborough, near Preston, between junctions 33 and 32.

"Our officers attended and found that a Seat Altea had left the carriageway and rolled several times.

"The driver of the car, a man in his 30s, suffered serious head injuries and is in a critical condition in hospital.

"Four passengers in the car – a woman in her 60s, a woman in her 20s and two children – suffered serious injuries and are being treated in hospital.

"The motorway was closed for several hours while officers investigated the collision.
