A Bolton choir, made up of people affected by cancer, has welcomed new members following a successful 'Summer Serenade' concert.

Cancer Voices is open to persons aged 18 and over, the 35-strong choir is eager to bring the joy of singing to more individuals.

The Bolton-based group recently marked its 12th anniversary.

Despite the struggles posed by the pandemic, the choir has returned with an even firmer resolve to confront cancer.

They are determined not to let it deter their dreams or limit their aspirations.

Founder and chair of the choir, Karen Elliott highlighted the positive atmosphere within the group.

She said: "Everyone is just buzzing after our highly acclaimed concert last Friday.

"It was very special for the choir for many reasons: it was our first concert in over 4 years; the inaugural concert with Katie – our new Musical Director, who joined us in August 2023.

It's the first performance experience for many of the new members and sadly the final concert for Mark, our retiring Accompanist, who’s been with the Choir almost since the start and played a fundamental role in building the Choir into what it is today."

She added: "Now’s the perfect time for new members to come on-board, as preparations get underway for our next exciting venture.

"We know cancer can be a lonely journey, even when surrounded by loved ones.

"Here at Bolton Cancer Voices you are shoulder to shoulder with people who understand the challenges that can accompany life with or beyond cancer but nevertheless resolutely set aside such issues.

"Focusing on learning the next song, looking forward to the next engagement, having fun and connecting with others who share their love of singing or are wanting to try something new."

In addition to new members, the choir also has an opening for the role of Accompanist.

Applicants should have excellent musicianship, proficient sight-reading skills, and previous experience accompanying choirs.

Initiative, a strong teamwork ethic, and the ability to quickly follow direction from the Musical Director are essential.
