The Bolton GP practices with the most ‘unhelpful’ receptionists according to patients have been revealed after the publication of the 2024 GP Patient Survey.

It was one of many questions asked to patients as part of the annual questionnaire.

More than 26,000 surveys were distributed across Bolton’s 49 GP surgeries, with just under 5,400 fully-completed surveys returned. Nationwide, around 2.56 million were sent out, with just under 700,000 completed and returned.

As well as asking about GP receptionists, patients were also asked whether they thought their practice was good, whether they saw a GP on the same day their appointment was booked, and if they could see their GP in-person.

A total of 17 of Bolton’s 49 GPs had more than 90 per cent of respondents answer that their reception and administrative teams were helpful, with just 14 coming in at below 80 per cent.

On average, 83 per cent of patients found their GP surgery’s receptionists to be helpful.

Last year, no surgeries had a rating of 90 per cent, with the highest surgery having 88 per cent of respondents rate its reception team as helpful.

In first place was Drs Jeyam & Jesudas at the Halliwell Surgery, with 99.4 per cent of patients saying the reception team had been helpful. In a close second was Dr Rizwan and Dr Awan, also at the Halliwell Surgery, with 96.9 per cent.

On the other hand, Bolton Medical Centre was the practice rated as having the most unhelpful reception and administrative team by far – with 45.1 per cent of respondents saying the team was unhelpful overall.

In second place was the Unsworth Group Practice, with 36.7 per cent of respondents saying their practice had an unhelpful reception team.
