A Bolton charity has been shortlisted for a diversity award, amidst competition from more than 90,000 nominees.

Reach Befriending is one of 125 finalists across 10 categories given a nod for their devotion to advancing equality, diversity, and inclusion.

Reach Befriending has been nominated in the 'Community Organisation: Age Award' category.

The accolade recognises its dedication to offering friendship and support to the elderly and disabled, often isolated members of the Bolton community.

Since its launch last year, the organisation has provided vital support via weekly visits or calls, making a significant difference to those it helps.

Those most at risk receive weekly hot meals, shopping assistance, and pastoral support.

This significant support combats loneliness, ensuring the elderly and disabled in Bolton remain connected and valued.

The National Diversity Awards will be announced on October 4, 2024, at the 13th installation of the ceremony held in Liverpool Anglican Cathedral.

Broadcaster Clare Balding, CBE, will host the ceremony, lauded in her career and personal life for her commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Balding said: "I’m honoured and delighted to return as host for these uplifting and inspiring awards.

"They celebrate all that's good and powerful in an inclusive society and bring much-deserved attention to community heroes."

Among other nominees in the category are SPACE Hertfordshire, SAFEquestrian, Cinnamon Trust Cornwall and #E Project.

Angela Barry, founder of Reach Family Project said: "This nomination is a tremendous honour for Reach Befriending.

"We look forward to the awards evening and the chance to celebrate everyone making positive differences."

Paul Sesay, chief executive of Inclusive Companies and founder of the National Diversity Awards said: "These Awards honour the unsung heroes transforming lives through their unwavering commitment."
