The M62 in Greater Manchester was shut between J20 (A627) and J19 (Heywood) this morning, due to planned works overrunning their pre-agreed end time of 06:00 due to an abnormal load movement.

It was anticipated that the closure will remain in place until at least 7.30am

The M62 westbound between J20 Rochdale and junction 19 Heywood reopened just after 7am following overnight works which overran their pre-agreed end time.

Delays of 30 minutes and approximately four miles of congestion remained on approach.

Motorists were told to  allow extra journey time if travelling in the area.

Traffic was being diverted via local roads.

Congestion was back past J21.

A spokesman for National Highways said at the time: “If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.”
