Radcliffe: Man arrested on suspicion of arson after flat fire bailed

The blaze took place at a property on Five Quarters, Radcliffe, on Friday night.

Firefighters battled the flames for three hours, with engines from Whitefield, Bury Central and Farnworth stations sent to the incident. 

Residents in adjoining properties were evacuated from their homes.

Police arrested a man in his 20s following the fire on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and was accused of assaulting a police officer.

Now, a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson has confirmed that he "will be bailed" following the incident.

On Saturday, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “Just after 9pm last night (Friday), three fire engines from Bury Central, Whitefield and Farnworth fire station were called to reports of a building fire involving a property on Five Quarters, Radcliffe. 

“Crews arrived quickly at the scene. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used three hose reel jets to extinguish the fire, they also used a gas detector and thermal imaging camera to ensure the property and neighbouring properties were safe.

“Firefighters were in attendance for around three hours.”
