A number of people from Bolton have been recently jailed for shoplifting.

The offence has risen dramatically across the UK.

The Office for National Statistics revealed in April this year there have been 430,000 incidents of it in the previous year, which was a rise of a third from 2022.

The figures are the highest since police records began in 2023.

And a number of people from Bolton have recently jailed for shoplifting.

Natalie Belfield stole plants worth £46 from the Asda on Brackley Street, Farnworth, earlier this month.

The same day she stole mead from Lidl worth £196.

The next day the 39-year-old admitted the offences at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates' Court.

The woman, of Ashley Grove, Farnworth, was jailed for 14 weeks.

The reasons given were her record and the seriousness of the offending.

Samantha Flatley stole bacon, tuna, wine, washing up products and other groceries worth £93 from the Co-op in Bolton in April this year.

In May she targeted the same store again on four different dates.

She stole £165 of items in meat, bold liquids, fairy boxes, meat, coffee, softeners, security boxes and a bottle of wine.

Also in May she stole £13 of coffee from Heron Foods, also in Bolton.

Flatley, of no fixed abode, also attacked a woman in May this year.

She admitted assault and six counts of theft at Manchester and Salford Magistrates' Court. She was jailed for 22 weeks.

The reasons given were that she has a “flagrant disregard for people and their property.”

David Marsh stole Vodka and Jack Daniels worth £117 in Sainsburys in Bolton last month.

The 51-year-old also went equipped for theft at an area in Bolton with a bag containing foil on the same date.

Marsh, of Knutshaw Crescent, Chew Moor, admitted the two offences at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates' Court. He was jailed for six weeks.

The reasons given were that the offences took place shorty after release from prison and it was a planned offence.

Melody Adamson stole a lawnmower from B&Q in Bolton worth £159 earlier this month.

The 36-year-old admitted the offence at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates' Court.

Adamson, of Higher Southfield, Westhoughton, was jailed for four weeks.

The reasons given were that her offences shows she was “operating as a professional criminal".
