A Bolton primary school has raised nearly £4,000 by hosting a summer music festival which counted the borough mayor among attendees.

Markland Hill Primary School held its outdoor "Hillfest" on Friday, July 5.

Crowds were treated to live performances on an outdoor stage from children including "Eye of the Tiger" played on recorders.

The school’s staff choir even joined in the fun, with a rendition of ABBA’s Mamma Mia.

Following the show, children took part in a range of activities including food stalls and games, enjoying the sunny weather.

The festival raised £3,919 for the school – higher than last year’s total of £3,351.

Headteacher Jessica Kavanagh said: “It was a wonderful festival.

“Our school vision is ‘Grow Together, Shine forever’ and our talented children shone brightly at Hillfest.

“Music has a great power to bring people together and it was a fabulous  way to start our school fair.

“The children were very excited that the mayor could attend the event also.”
