A new children’s home could be created in Blackrod – if new plans are approved.

Ryan Johnson has put the proposal forward relating to a property on Chorley Road in the area.

If approved there would be just one child living at the spot at a given period.

Safepaths, a group which aims to promote a supportive environment for children across the North West, has provided a statement in support of the move.

It will be staffed 24 hours of the day by qualified care professionals, a maximum of three staff members will be on the site at all times to ensure continuous supervision.

The child would have a large bedroom.

On the same floor there would be a small bedroom for staff, as well as a bathroom.

The ground floor would have a combined bedroom and office for staff, a communal lounge, a dining area and kitchen.

There would also be four parking spots and the exiting garden would be maintained.

In a statement Safepaths said: “There is a recognised need for high quality residential care facilities for children in the local area.

“This care home will address this need by offering a stable, supportive environment for a child who cannot live with their family due to various reasons, such as neglect or other care needs.”

It added : “The proposed change of use from a residential dwelling to a residential care home for one child is justified by the need for such facilities, compliance with planning policies, and the community benefit it provides.

“The supporting evidence confirms the lawful use of the property and the appropriateness of the proposed change.”
